When I Grow Up…

This was written by $3 Bill’s eight-year-old niece as a homework assignment about what she wants to be when she grows up.

roller derby girl

When I grow up I would like to be a Roller Derby Girl.

I picked a Roller Derby Girl because I skate well and I work well on a team.

I would respect my teammates and get to practice on time showing I am responsible.

I would need a four year college degree in business and marketing to be successful.

I will use math for keeping score, ticket sales and travel expenses. I will use writing for our business plans and read our programs.

I will need to be safe and healthy and know how to put my padding on.

I think the funnist thing in Roller Derby is that you get to roller skate and have fun with your friends.

I wanted to be a Roller Derby Girl because my Aunt Holly “Wanna Crack Ya” Eden is one.

My Aunt Holly likes to roller skate because she enjoys being with her friends and the competition.

I read this to my team on Sunday and we felt it should be CRG’s new mission statement.

  2. Thanks for sharing such a beautifully written piece.

Lily has really captured the heart and soul of what CRG is all about! I hope I’ll be around to see her skate someday. She has some mighty big skates to fill!

  3. That is fantastic! I had a chance to bring my sister and my nephew to Nationals last year. My nephew (g yrs old at the time) LOVED it and decided he wanted to be a Roller Girl too! So I bought he and I matching male and female Respect the Ref T-shirts and he’s a ref in training like his Aunt Heinous Grace 😉

  4. We’ll I don’t have a Master’s Degree in business and marketing but close…Master’s in computer science 🙂

Awesome read!!! Thank you for sharing.
