Special Olympics: We’re Not Done Yet

Do you remember way back in 2010 when CRG partnering with the Special Olympics was a new thing? That is when Celia Fate, Evil Ed, and Eris Discordia raised $3,732 and became the first CRG to go Over The Edge to raise money for SONC. In October 2010, Sheeza Freak and Hot Mess Express stepped up to coach the Wake County Special Olympics roller skating team and brought home all the medals. In 2011 the coaches added MC Fyte and a Durham County Special Olympics roller skating team and then raised $10,786 to send ten skaters and volunteers Over The Edge. And just this February we raised $250 so that we could jump in icy water to show our continued support of Special Olympics. That’s a grand total of $14,768, 3 coaches, 2 Special Olympics teams, and lots of medals all for one very important cause- and we’re not done yet!

Another Carolina Rollergirls team has formed in hopes of raising $1,000 each to become eligible to rappel down the 32 story Wells Fargo Building (formerly the Wachovia Building- new name, same breathtaking height) on October 6 and WE NEED YOUR HELP! This year we have 7 skaters and volunteers who want to jump off a building for a good cause and we are counting on donations from family, friends, and fans to make that happen. Our individual pages can be found here and 100% of your donations go to support the Special Olympics of North Carolina. When will you ever be able to donate to an amazing cause AND watch your friend dangle off the side of a building? NEVER, that’s when! But what if you can’t decide which CRG to support? No worries, you can donate to the Carolina Rollergirls page and the 7 hopefuls will share the money to get as many of us Over The Edge as possible. We couldn’t have participated in this event for the last three years without the continued support of our wonderful fans- please share our page with everybody you know so that we can make this happen again!

And because rollergirls love Special Olympics and running, we are happy to announced that the most awesome 5k series, Color Me Rad, has partnered with SONC for the October 27th race in Raleigh. The event will be held at the Time Warner Music Pavilion and if you enter promo code SONC when registering, 20% of your registration fee will go to benefit SONC.
