Getting geared up for 2011? Is your New Year’s resolution to get out of your normal routine and try new things? Well as luck, and a lot of planning, would have it, here is our gift to you…
Carolina Rollergirls is holding our annual January tryouts THIS Sunday morning from 9:30-11:30 at the Skate Ranch of Raleigh.
The Carolina Rollergirls will be doing a new system this time around. We will be holding three rounds of cuts during tryouts. We will start with basic skating, then go into basic skills (for a list of skills you will be expected to demonstrate, check out our tryouts page) and end with a fun fun fun obstacle course that will test your agility, reaction time and overall skating balance. After tryouts, if you made it all the way to the end, we will be sending out letters, via email, with the information letting you know if you have passed or not, as well as how to begin the process of becoming an official Carolina Rollergirl.
We ask that you bring a photo ID (you must be at least 18 years old) and full equipment. There will be waivers for you to sign when you arrive and you will be given a number to pin to your shirt. You will be addressed by number, not name, during the tryouts.
For a little history, the Carolina Rollergirls is one of the original leagues in the current roller derby revival that started in Austin, Texas. We are among 105 leagues in the country that are recognized as a legitimate league in the sport of roller derby by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
Join the hundred of thousands of women who have already taken on the challenge of becoming a rollergirl. The bumper stickers don’t lie: Roller Derby saved my soul!
