Fan Code of Conduct

Carolina Roller Derby (CRD) and its athletes, referees, coaches, volunteers, and fans share a commitment to creating safe and inclusive experiences. We want to uplift our community and ask our spectators to help us continue this commitment and enjoy the sport in a responsible fashion.

For fans and spectators at a CRD event, the following will not be tolerated:

  • Abusive and obscene language or gestures, indecent exposure, or any other form of harassment toward skaters (including opposing teams), officials, production staff, and other event patrons. This includes targeted harassment or expressing unwanted interest in specific skaters.
  • Targeting others with slurs, tropes, or other content that intends to dehumanize, degrade, or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.
    • Note: Affected individuals or witnesses do not need to be a member of a specific protected category for us to act.
  • Any sound or visual device (including whistles/whistling) that may detract from the quality of the spectator experience, distract the skaters/referees, and could impact the outcome of a bout.
  • Upsetting or hateful images or symbols displayed on your person expressing hate towards a person, group, or protected category. Any such symbols or images that interfere with the collective fan enjoyment of the event will be removed from the venue at the sole discretion of the event staff.
  • Interference with the progress of the event.
  • Entering or attempting to enter the track, team benches, locker rooms, or other non-public areas.
  • Failing to follow instructions of event staff, volunteers, coaches, CRD leadership, or the rules and guidelines of the event space.
  • Any behavior that is illegal or considered beyond our family friendly standards, per the league’s discretion.

Violations to our Fan Code of Conduct can result in verbal warnings, removal from the event without a refund, or bans from future events depending on the severity and nature of the incident. This code of conduct applies to in-person events and also in digital or virtual spaces including live streams, social media comment sections, etc.

Additionally:

Roller derby should be accessible for all, and CRD is committed to providing an accessible space for fans during bouts. The league will make ADA seating available, and fans in the area are expected to move to make space as needs arise.

Service animals are welcome at events, but pets are not permitted. Please note the environment is loud and there are high-pitched whistles during gameplay.
